Peppercorn Ranch

Let’s change the system, together.

Peppercorn Ranch is a project-based maker residency program in located a private residence in South Asheville, North Carolina.

We believe that co-working and skill-sharing are vehicles to dismantle oppressive systems, and we offer time, space, tools, and community to local makers to help support their artistic growth.

This experimental project is currently provided at no-cost to participants.

Since 2015, the artist collaborative PCPB has been helping their friends learn new and hard things by providing free access to tools, time, space, materials, and instruction. With the guiding spirit of learning-and-doing-together-is-easier, weekends were consumed with multi-day sleepovers filled with crafts and potluck food. So much can be accomplished when time and knowledge is a shared experience.

Peppercorn Ranch is a formalized expansion of that original crafting ritual. Purrmanent Residents have now opened their home to the community and formalized the process for getting involved, all while continuing to center the values of growth through sharing, community, and free education.

  • Ranchidencies are offered seasonally and intermittently, based on the PTO cycle of the Purrmanent Ranchidents.

During the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Ranchidencies dates were based on the K-12 school calendar and project proposals were accepted for during March spring break, November break, and December breaks.

  • While we can accommodate most projects, we have limited space.

The Ranch is centered in a small reconfigurable basement woodshop with a few work tables and a large garage door with access to outdoor building space.

Ranchidents may also propose tabletop projects that can be centered in a quiet walk-up attic space.

  • Peppercorn Ranch provides access to a number of tools, including but not limited to: woodworking hand tools, woodworking power tools including a bandsaw, drill press, mitersaw, table saw, planer, and various sanders. We also have sewing machines, linocut print making tools, and various interdisciplinary sculptural tools.

  • We believe that coworking and community allows artists and makers to thrive.

The Purrmanent Ranchidents of Peppercorn Ranch will be purrsuing their own projects during Ranchidency dates, however, these folks are also teachers who believe that skill-sharing and collaboration are powerful means to dismantle systems of oppression.

  • No catch. We are offering this experimental project at no-cost to Ranchidents. No application fee. No fee to participate. No materials fee. No fee for instruction.

Some consumables are available for use on-site, and we ask that if you can provide your own, please do.

We often share food during sessions, so bring a dish to pass, if you can!

  • We are not currently funded by outside sources but are looking to change that!
